Brazil’s industrial electricity consumption grows by 5.2% in the first half of 2023

Electricity consumption within Brazil’s industrial sector, the leading economy in Latin America, saw a rise of 5.2% during the first six months of 2023 compared to the same period last year, according to an announcement by the country’s Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The reported figures underscore the rebound of Brazil’s industrial sector, which has witnessed growth and subsequently pushed electricity demand.

This information, provided by the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE), highlights the interplay between industry and energy consumption.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, expressed in the official report that the electrical system has played a pivotal role in “revitalizing economic activities”.

The government, he added, is keen on ensuring that this sector spurs development and job creation.

Furthermore, when looking at the broader picture of electricity consumption across the country, not limited to the industrial domain, data suggests a modest increase of 1.4% compared to the first half of 2022.
