Brazil’s National Electricity System Operator (NESO) confirmed, through a statement released on Tuesday morning (15), that there was a power disruption affecting several regions around 8:30 am.
This was attributed to a connection issue within the national grid, specifically between the North and Southeast areas.
The statement indicated a cut-off of 16,000 megawatts (MW) primarily in the North and Northeast states, but it also impacted some Southeast states.
NESO highlighted that 6,000 MW had been restored since the restoration process began at 9:16 am. Investigations into the exact cause of the disruption are ongoing.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, has initiated a specialized team to monitor the system’s restoration and to examine the incident further.
