Venezuela and Iran sign 25 bilateral cooperation agreements

On Monday, Venezuela and Iran strengthened their relationships by ratifying 25 fresh bilateral cooperative agreements. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, regard this association as strategically significant.

These agreements span across various sectors, including agriculture, oil, petrochemicals, gas, science, technology, academics, commerce, and culture.

Speaking from Miraflores Palace, the Venezuelan Government headquarters, President Maduro marked Raisi’s visit to Caracas as a “new milestone” in their relationship, emphasizing both nations’ responsibility towards creating a new global order.

“Venezuela and Iran are bound together, and our commitment to building economic prosperity will only grow.”

“Today, we have ratified 25 agreements and, as we speak, negotiations for additional agreements and new projects in oil, gas, petrochemicals, gold, and more are underway,” asserted Maduro.

On the other hand, after the agreements’ signing, Raisi proclaimed that Venezuela and Iran are “companions during challenging times. Our relationship is not merely diplomatic; it’s based on strategic interests. Our cooperation is deep-rooted and strategic.”

The Iranian President further emphasized that both nations currently share “common adversaries against our sovereignty and independence.”

He noted that the trade exchange between the two countries was approximately US$600 million two years ago, but it has now escalated to around US$3 billion.

The goal for the foreseeable future is to elevate this figure to US$10 billion.
