Paraguay’s president-elect, Santiago Peña, has embarked on a significant international trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Taiwan.
This journey underscores the importance of these relationships to Paraguay.
In Taiwan, Peña will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, who he referred to as a “great friend”.
The visit is seen as an affirmation of Paraguay’s continued support for Taiwan amidst the often tense diplomatic climate due to China’s opposing stance.
The visit to the UAE comes as part of strengthening ties between the two nations.
Sheikh Mohamed, the UAE President, congratulated Peña on his election victory and expressed hopes for ongoing progress and development in Paraguay.
These trips highlight Peña’s focus on nurturing international relationships early in his presidency, reflecting his intention to strengthen Paraguay’s global standing and foster collaboration on common interests.
