Paraguay’s president-elect promises to create 500,000 jobs in 5 years

The president-elect of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, promised in an interview with the Unicanal television network to create 500,000 jobs in the next five years, mainly through support for small and medium-sized companies.

When asked how the labor situation will evolve during his term of office, Peña answered: “500,000 jobs in 5 years, the employment revolution”.

To achieve this goal, according to the President-elect, the Government will “finance small and medium-sized companies at competitive rates, speeding up the opening and closing of companies, creating the conditions for the participation of small and medium-sized companies in public purchases by the State”.

“Generate the conditions for Paraguay to be attractive”, he summarized.

Job creation, Peña assured, will be “an obsession” of his Government.

“We have to improve the quality of life of Paraguayans, lower the price of the basic food basket, of fuel, generate more and better jobs”, he said.

Peña, of the ruling Colorado Party (right wing), won on April 30 at the polls with 42% of the votes, overcoming Efraín Alegre of the opposition Concertación Nacional Para Un Nuevo Paraguay, who obtained 27.4%.

The 44-year-old economist will take office on August 15 for the 2023-2028 presidential term.
