Opposition strike against Arce persists in Santa Cruz province

The civic strike called by the opposition in the province of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has now lasted four days without the regime of Luis Arce and the protesters reaching any agreement.

Tuesday, October 25, passed amid altercations between supporters of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) and protesters in the region.

There, Arce’s supporters, aided by the police, tried to forcefully lift the blockades imposed by those who are part of the strike, which so far has no stipulated end date.

Santa Cruz has used the pressure measure to demand the completion of the population census in the Andean country in 2023 and that this database be used in the next general elections, stipulated for 2025.

The Arce regime has postponed this procedure, originally due to take place next November, to the year 2024.

Representatives of the Single Union Federation of Peasant Workers of Santa Cruz (affiliated with MAS) have slipped the possibility of promoting a “siege” on Santa Cruz in response to the strike.

Arce has called on his supporters to participate on Friday in a “plurinational meeting” in the Cochabamba region to discuss a possible definitive date for the census.
