Cape Verde set to sign protocol on cybercrime

Cape Verde is set to become the second African country to sign an additional protocol to the Budapest Convention on cybercrime, intending to bolster collaboration between states and private sector entities, providing more legal clarity to service providers.

This was confirmed by the country’s Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa.

Furthermore, Rosa announced that Cape Verde also intends to sign the 108 Plus Convention, a modernized European data protection regulation.

It bolsters the principle of lawful processing, enhances protection for special data categories, and introduces new rights for individuals regarding transparency and data access.

The signing is expected to occur in Strasbourg by the end of the month.

Cape Verde’s adherence to these conventions signifies a step forward in strengthening international cooperation against cybercrime, following Morocco as the second African country to sign this protocol.

Cape Verde’s entry will see 59 countries adopting the Budapest Convention on cybercrime.
