Murder plot: Brazilian PCC members rented property near former Lava Jato judge, Senator Moro

Members of the PCC, a criminal organization that operates inside and outside prisons in Brazil, had been planning for months the assassination of Senator Sergio Moro (União-PR), former Lava Jato judge and former Minister of Justice and Public Security.

According to preliminary information from the Federal Police, which launched this Wednesday, 22, operation to stop the plan, the criminals rented farms, houses, and even an office next to Moro’s address.

The senator’s family had also been monitored for months by the criminal group, according to investigators.

Another target of the group was prosecutor Lincoln Gakyia, from the Special Group for Repression against Organized Crime (Gaeco), from Presidente Prudente, São Paulo.

He has investigated PCC leaders for years and operates with reinforced personal security.

As for Moro, the motive for the assassination plot would be his performance as Minister of Justice in the government of Jair Bolsonaro.

During that period (2019 to 2020), the former judge ordered the transfer of the head of the PCC, Marcos Willians Herbas Camacho, aka Marcola, and other members, to maximum security prisons.

With the isolation of the leaders, the goal was to weaken the criminal organizations.

At the time, he also issued a decree restricting intimate visits in federal prisons, which would be one reason for the retaliation.

The plans of the PCC had been planned since last year, and in January, the senator was informed about reinforcing his security and that of his family.

Operation Sequaz was launched on Wednesday morning, with the participation of about 120 police officers in four states and the Federal District.

They serve 21 search and seizure warrants and 11 arrest warrants in Sao Paulo, Parana, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rondonia, and the Federal District.

Moro said he would speak about the PCC’s retaliation plan this afternoon in the Senate.

“About the retaliation plans of the PCC against me, my family, and other public agents, I will make a statement in the afternoon in the Senate tribune.”

” For now, I thank the PF, PM/PR, Legislative Police of the Senate and House, PM/SP, MPE/SP, and their leaders for their support and work,” he wrote on Twitter.
