Brazil-Indonesia pact expands opportunities for Brazilian agriculture

In a move towards export diversification, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil opened avenues to 31 markets in 2023.

Recent agreements on inspection and approval protocols for the export of Brazilian agricultural goods were solidified between Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the health authorities of Indonesia.

This collaboration enables Brazil to tap into two new Indonesian markets, enhancing their trade ties.

Over the past seven months, efforts have been directed towards expanding markets and enhancing the value of exports, leading to job creation in both urban and rural areas, stated Carlos Fávaro, the Agriculture and Livestock Minister.

Under the agreements, Brazil can export cattle, aiding Indonesia’s livestock genetic improvement, and animal by-products for feed.

Brazil’s exports to Indonesia surpassed U$ 1.98 billion from January to July.

Soybean meal and other animal feeds, excluding unground cereals, along with meat flours and other animal products, accounted for 51% of exports during this period.

Earlier in May, Fávaro had a virtual discussion with Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister, Yasin Limpo, about strengthening trade relations.

Indonesia also announced its market’s openness to Brazilian beef earlier this year.

The signing ceremony took place in Belém, Pará, where Indonesian health officials convened for the Amazon Summit.

Among those present were notable figures from both nations, including Carlos Goulart, Jesus de Nazareno Magalhães de Sena, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Dr. Ir. Nasrullah, and Nuryani Zainuddin.

To date, 31 markets have welcomed Brazilian agricultural products since the start of the year.
