Brazil has the 121st-largest GDP expansion among 193 countries

If Brazil got a good position in the inflation ranking of the world, reaching the 144th position among 193 countries last year, according to data from the National Monetary Fund (IMF), the same cannot be said about growth.

The Brazilian GDP grew 2.9% last year, which places the country in the 121st position.

The performance caused Brazil to fall below the top one hundred growths for the first time since 2020 when it ranked 88th.

And the country failed to achieve what the former Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, believed in October to be feasible: to grow more than China for the first time since 1980.

The Asian country had a 3% increase in GDP last year.

The best Brazilian position in the ranking was in 1985, during the Sarney government, when the Brazilian economy grew 7.9%, which guaranteed the 15th position among 145 countries.

This was one of the country’s two times in the top 20 in international growth.

The other time was in 1980, during the Figueiredo government, with a 9.19% GDP expansion, when Brazil ranked 18th.

The worst performance was recorded in 2016, under the Dilma/Temer governments, when the Brazilian economy shrank by 3.28%, which placed it in the 187th position out of 195 countries.
