Bolsonaro: Transferring Brazil’s Embassy in Israel Is “Loyalty to God”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Israel is back in the spotlight in international geopolitics due to the crisis between the US and Iran, and despite the tension still covering the region, the Brazilian government’s intention to transfer the country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem still stands.

A major step toward this end was taken last month when a business office was inaugurated in Jerusalem. On that occasion, President Jair Bolsonaro explained that this was also a decision made based on dialogue with leaders of the Arab world.

“We inaugurated our business office in Jerusalem. I have been talking with leaders of the Arab world, we are working to achieve our goal,” said the president, pointing out that the transfer of the Brazilian embassy, in his opinion, goes beyond a mere pledge.

“It is not enough just to make a campaign commitment, we must do it in a way that everyone understands its real goal. Mine is loyalty to God,” said Bolsonaro, according to information from Agência Brasil.

The Brazilian government’s main concern is to carry out the transfer of the embassy while maintaining a good trade relationship with Islamic countries, which currently rank 3rd among the main importers of Brazilian agricultural products.

According to the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil), a body linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the command of the Brazilian office in Jerusalem, strengthening relations with Israel will bring many benefits to Brazil in several areas.

“Some sectors confirming Israeli prominence in technology are agribusiness and water use solutions, as well as advances in cybersecurity for customer defense, data protection, and military application,” the body said in a statement.

“Israel is renowned for being a major producer of technology and innovation. The country produces more technology startups than any other country in the world except the United States,” it adds.

“Thus, among the points to be addressed by the APEX-Brasil office in Jerusalem is the promotion of new technology partnerships and the pull of Research and Development (R&D) centers to Brazil,” the statement concludes.
