Brazil: Lula starts handing out positions to bar the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission of January 8
President Lula will start handing out second-level positions this week to bar the Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPMI) of January 8, reported the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo on Tuesday, 14.
The CPMI wants to get to the authors of the vandalism acts at Three Powers Square.
The list of seats benefits União Brasil, the party of the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, which will have directorships of the Post Office, the National Fund for the Development of Education, and the National Department of Works against Droughts.
União Brasil will also hold the presidency of Telebras and the Development Company of the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys, among other strategic positions.
The companies and offices “allotted” have been involved in corruption scandals throughout several governments.
The MDB will also get its slice of the cake.
Lula promised the MDB the director of the Bank of the Northeast, a vice-presidency of Caixa Econômica Federal, and four secretaries in the Ministry of Cities.
With the handing over of positions, the Planalto Palace expects the withdrawal of signatures from the CPMI of the January 8 acts.
Lula gave the green light for the appointments after the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), warned that the delay in meeting the allies could make the beginning of his third term start badly, with significant defeats in Congress.
Lira also complained about attacks by the president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, against the “Centrão‘ coalition.
