Ultraconnection: Ericsson and Unicamp create 6G research center in Brazil

A new research center is going to be created in Brazil.

With an initial investment of R$56 million, applied over the next ten years, the facility will be called Smartness, Smart Networks and Services Engineering Research Center 2030, based on the merger between Sweden’s Ericsson, the world’s largest manufacturer of for mobile networks in market share, the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp).

The focus will be on research in Brazil for the application of 5G connection and the evolution of 6G. In all, 50 engineering, electrical, computing and telecommunications specialists will take part in the project.

The industries that should benefit from the research will be automotive, agribusiness, health and everything related to the internet of things (Photo internet reproduction)

The central objective is to create both scientific and technological advances to evolve in 5G — and this is where research on 6G technology comes in, already expected to enter the commercial phase in 2030. 

According to Ericsson, the only company that for now finances part of the project, initial research should focus on the capabilities of sensors and applications that bring advantages in sending and receiving data.

The industries that should benefit from the research will be automotive, agribusiness, health and everything related to the internet of things.
