He said he would like the process to move quickly, but rebuilding “the whole infrastructure” will take time. His message to Venezuelans emphasized order—peace, justice, safety—and the promise of a “real and great country.”
Officials signaled an interim structure anchored by “designated” figures, largely from Trump’s orbit. Trump also suggested that Venezuela’s vice president—picked by Maduro—would be willing to do what is necessary inside that framework.
On the opposition, he cast doubt on María Corina Machado’s ability to command broad national backing, without presenting an alternative consensus leader.
Rubio sharpened the administration’s Cuba argument, calling the island a failing state and claiming Cuban personnel formed much of Maduro’s security and intelligence apparatus, leaving Venezuela “colonized” in security terms.
Trump also escalated rhetoric toward Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, alleging cocaine production and shipments to the United States.
Economically, Trump said U.S. oil companies will invest billions to revive Venezuela’s oil infrastructure and sell output to any buyer, including China.
He also made clear the option of boots on the ground remains active—an escalation he said he is not afraid to use to prevent the intervention from collapsing into chaos.
