What happened

Resolute Mining, listed in Australia and London, produced about 30,000 ounces of gold at its Syama mine in southern Mali in the second quarter of 2026 — short of the 40,000 to 45,000 ounces it had guided. The company blamed logistical and supply-chain disruption caused by the security crisis rippling across the Sahel in late April and May.

Road insecurity delayed the equipment needed to reach higher-grade ore, and a temporary squeeze on explosives forced intermittent blasting. Resolute has flagged that its Mali operation will now land at the lower end of its 2026 production guidance.

Why Côte d’Ivoire matters

The miner’s answer is diversification. Its Doropo project in northern Côte d’Ivoire is under construction and on schedule, with first gold targeted for the second half of 2028.

For a company whose cash flow leans heavily on one Malian mine, a producing asset across the border in a more stable country changes the risk equation.
