Musk and Vance Slam Judicial Overreach as Trump Defends Executive Power

Vice President J.D. Vance and billionaire Elon Musk have condemned what they call rampant judicial overreach, accusing federal courts of improperly interfering with executive authority.

Their remarks, shared on social media, come as President Donald Trump faces multiple legal challenges to key policies early in his second term. Vance argued that judges are overstepping their constitutional role by obstructing executive decisions, labeling such actions “blatantly illegal.”

Musk echoed this sentiment by calling for the impeachment of a federal judge. The judge had recently blocked his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury Department systems.

Musk described the judiciary’s actions as “obstruction,” claiming they protect entrenched bureaucratic interests. Federal courts have temporarily halted several Trump initiatives.

These include an order to end birthright citizenship for undocumented immigrants’ children and a policy mandating that transgender female inmates be housed in male prisons.

Additionally, the courts blocked DOGE’s access to Treasury systems. Critics argue these rulings represent judicial overreach, not oversight. Trump allies link this trend to patterns established under Joe Biden’s presidency when courts frequently intervened in regulatory matters.

Vance insists that presidents like Trump must resist judicial orders that infringe on executive authority. He stated, “Judges cannot usurp powers granted exclusively to the president.”

The growing conflict highlights a broader struggle over the separation of powers. Supporters of judicial intervention view it as essential oversight, while critics like Vance and Musk see it as obstruction.

In short, as lawsuits against Trump’s policies multiply, the administration’s pushback could redefine the balance of power between branches of government.
