Latam airlines tightens carry-on baggage rules; fees may apply
Latam Airlines is set to implement stricter checks on carry-on luggage during boarding.
The goal is to ensure passengers adhere to hand luggage’s allowed quantity and dimensions.
Should bags not meet the set guidelines, check-in fees will be levied.
Currently, Latam’s policy permits travelers to bring a small backpack and hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg on board, meant for the overhead compartment.
The weight allowance for those traveling in Premium Business or Premium Economy increases to 16 kg.
In terms of size, hand luggage should not exceed 55 cm in height, 35 cm in length, and 25 cm in width.

This includes any handles, wheels, and external pockets. These dimensions align with recommendations set by Abear (Brazilian Association of Airline Companies).
Latam said, “During boarding, we’ll ascertain that all our passengers comply with the allowed luggage count and size per their fare type.”
“If any baggage exceeds the permitted quantity or dimensions, a fee will be charged for it to be stowed in the aircraft’s hold.”
Latam’s luggage check-in charges range between R$95 (US$19) and R$160 for domestic flights.
A second baggage check-in for the hold costs between R$130 and R$185. On international flights, fees vary based on the destination.
