Foreign Investors Exit Brazil’s Ibovespa Amidst January Slump

In January, the Ibovespa stock index saw a notable decline. This was mainly due to foreign investors pulling out.

These developments were the focus of Monday’s news:

The Ibovespa index dropped over 3.5% in January. This fall was linked to foreign investors withdrawing funds.

Data shows they pulled out R$ 1.67 billion (approximately $337.37 million) on January 16 and R$ 600 million (about $121.21 million) on January 17.

The total outflow for January amounted to R$ 59.3 million (around $11.97 million).

Real estate companies outperformed Ibovespa. Their market value almost tripled in comparison. Meanwhile, block trade sales hit a new high at R$ 16.3 ($3.3) billion.
