Swedish multinational Electrolux, the world’s leading manufacturer of household appliances, has announced the construction of a new plant in the Brazilian state of Paraná (Southern Region).
It is the third in the state and the fifth in Brazil.
The refrigerator and freezer plant will be located in São José dos Pinhais, in the Curitiba metropolitan region.

The factory will be the first in Latin America with zero carbon dioxide emissions and 100% renewable energy.
It will increase by 25% the production of refrigerators and freezers for export to countries in the region.
The new factory will be built on a 46,000 m2 site developed in two phases.
The first phase will start within a month and end in October 2024, when the plant will begin operating at 30% of total capacity.
The project is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2025.
“The construction of this new plant in Latin America will allow for better produce imported products for Peru and increase by 25% the production of refrigerators and freezers distributed throughout Latin America, including Peru.”
“The factory will also have an area reserved for strategic suppliers,” explained Ramez Chamma, Director of Operations Latam.
Electrolux’s total investment is US$140 million, with most of the money going to the construction of the new plant and the other part being used for new product development at the Curitiba plant.
The investment plan calls for 500 new direct jobs and 1,400 indirect jobs in the supply chain.
Another 1,000 employees will be involved in the construction of the plant.
100% SUSTAINABLE PLANT
Once operational, the plant will be the largest in Latin America, with zero carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy.
It will have smart water and energy management and reuse treated industrial and sanitary wastewater.
It will eliminate single-use plastic and generate renewable energy through solar panels.
It will also boast several certifications, including “Zero Landfill,” a global program that aims to avoid sending waste to landfills, and compliance with Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines in all construction and operation phases.
WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS IN PERU?
Currently, 20% of Electrolux products supplied to Peru are manufactured in Brazil from responsible production.
With this new factory, the company aims to double the number of products imported from that country.
Consumers often do not consider the production process in their purchasing decisions, but it is becoming an increasingly important aspect of responsible purchasing for the planet.
