Brazilian security forces shut down ten illegal mines in the Amazon

In the Amazon city of Maués, located in the southern part of the state, ten illicit mining operations have been put to a halt by law enforcement agencies over the past 17 days, according to a report released this past weekend.

The security task force operating in the National Forest of Urupadi imposed fines totaling R$ 4.5 million on the illegal miners, as per the report from Agência Brasil.

The operation also led to the confiscation of 13 hydraulic excavators, one bulldozer, six motorcycles, three quad bikes, 61 huts, 16 power generators, 20 pump engines, seven dredges, and nine firearms, along with other equipment linked to unlawful mining activities, including boats and mercury.

The operation was carried out with the collaboration of various agencies, including the Federal Police (PF), the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the National Force, the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).
