Opposing politicians condemn ‘Trans Children Matter’ segment at LGBT+ Parade in São Paulo

Opposition politicians to the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva voiced their objections to elements of the 27th LGBT+ Pride Parade, which took place this Sunday (June 11) in São Paulo.

The primary point of contention was the participation of children in the event.

Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro of the conservative PL party shared a photo of a child holding a placard that read “Trans children exist”.

Bolsonaro, the third son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, contended that “the left is attempting to impose its agenda on children, making it difficult to reverse the damage caused.”

Eduardo further suggested that in the future, parental authority over their own children could be undermined.

The sign was displayed in the “Trans Children Matter” segment of the LGBT+ Pride Parade.

Children at the forefront of this segment carried a banner that stated, “Trans children and adolescents exist”, a slogan of the NGO Minha Criança Trans.

Amanda Vettorazzo, a substitute state deputy for the União Brasil-SP party, expressed her concerns in a video clip of the event, questioning, “What is this fascination with involving children?”.

She then stated, “I don’t think it’s right. What about you?”

Nikolas Ferreira, a federal deputy from Minas Gerais for the PL party, also voiced his opinion on the issue.

He questioned why the LGBTQIA+ community seems to target children and suggested that a next step was imminent.

Nikolas further amplified his stance on his official Twitter account, where he shared two other posts related to the LGBT+ Pride Parade.

The first depicted a man dancing on a cross, presumably a reference to the crucifixion of Jesus.

The second showed a child conversing with two men dressed in bondage attire, a sexual fetish practice.

However, the Power360 outlet discovered that the image of the child was not from this year’s parade.

The photo has been circulated by Facebook users since 2018, and it is unclear whether the scene took place in Brazil, given that users from various countries have shared it.

These politicians have decried the event as promoting “sexualization” and pedophilia.

Contrary to the opposition, members of the ruling party attended the parade and voiced their support for the demonstration.

The official government Twitter account declared that President Lula’s administration celebrates diversity.

The tweet also reiterated the government’s commitment “to equality and respect for all individuals. The LGBTQIA+ community exists, is significant, and deserves to be appreciated in all its diversity.”

IDEOLOGICAL DIVIDE
