Brazil Sets Africa as 2024 Foreign Policy Focus

Celso Amorim, Brazil’s special advisor, said Africa will be central to Brazil’s foreign policy in 2024.

He made this announcement at the 11th Brazil-Africa Forum in São Paulo.

After President Lula da Silva’s election, Brazil aimed to re-enter global discussions, Amorim explained.

Now, Brazil will focus more on Africa, he added. This year’s forum talks mostly about global trade.

Amorim didn’t give details but said new Africa-related projects will get top-level attention in 2024.

He also said Brazil’s past interactions with Africa were reduced, but things will be different now.

According to Amorim, Africa has changed a lot. So, new kinds of cooperation like digital and gender issues are needed, he said.

Equal Partner – Brazil Sets Africa as 2024 Foreign Policy Focus

He urged Brazilian businesses to see Africa as an equal partner.

Lastly, Amorim emphasized that Africa is among the fastest-growing regions globally. Therefore, he said mutual growth for both Brazilian and African businesses is possible.

This announcement marks a shift in Brazil’s international goals. It also reconnects Brazil with Africa after reduced engagements in the past years.

Africa is now a growing economic power, making it an attractive partner for Brazil. The renewed focus on Africa also includes new areas like digital tech and gender issues.

This shows that Brazil’s approach to Africa is modern and broad. It could serve as a model for other countries looking to partner with Africa.

Both Brazil and Africa can benefit from this focus, leading to mutual growth.
