“The Armed Forces are not the moderating power as they think they are”, says Lula da Silva

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he lived very well with the Armed Forces and invested in them during the eight years he governed the country (between 2003 and 2010).

The statement was made by the PT leader this Thursday (12) during coffee with journalists, at the Planalto Palace.

In the conversation, Lula da Silva said that it is necessary to remember that they are not a moderating power.

“The Armed Forces know that their role is defined in the Constitution. The Armed Forces are not the moderating power they think they are. The Armed Forces have a role in the Constitution, which is the defense of the Brazilian people and our sovereignty against external enemies. That is what the role of the Armed Forces is and it is defined in our Constitution. That’s what I want them to do well”, said the PT leader.

Lula da Silva also criticized the participation of the military in monitoring the elections: “I think that democracy should be taken care of by civil society, by political parties.”

The PT leader also stated that Bolsonaro managed to “pollute” the Armed Forces.
