By Lisa Flueckiger, Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Saturday, April 13th Botafogo Social Club (BSC) is hosting their fourth anniversary party at Alto Vidigal. The party will bring together all BSC’s resident DJs together for the first time in over a year to pump out music from funk, hip hop to house.

The party features Rio-based expatriate DJs Mike Frugaletti, Tee Cardaci (both originally from San Fransisco) and Doug Gray, Dan Markham and Jan Roldanus (hailing from London), who each will bring their own specialty of sounds to the table.

Their music “all overlaps and complements each other, creating a depth of styles and musical diversity unmatched in Rio”, as Tee Cardaci tells The Rio Times.

The night will also include renowned graffiti artist, Marcio SWK from Santa Crew, who will be painting live to commemorate the occasion.

“This will be a night to remember for true connoisseurs of funky music and those that just love to get down and shake it!” Tee Cardaci tells The Rio Times.

The party series originally launched four years ago as a night of old school funk, soul and Brazilian music, by BCS, as the five expat-DJs wanted to bring back funk and soul on vinyl to the Cidade Maravilhosa. Starting in Botafogo, they have moved around to play out different locations such as in Lapa, Ipanema and Leblon, and now in Vidigal.

Past highlights included bringing BBC Radio One host and DJ Gilles Peterson to Brazil, as well as hosting epic blocos on Vinicius de Moraes during Carnival.

The fourth birthday edition will take place at the recently reopened guesthouse Alto Vidigal, situated on top of the recently pacified Vidigal favela. The Austrian-owned guesthouse has been known for its late-night parties, such as regular electronic party Run VDG and its spectacular view onto the beaches of Ipanema and Leblon.
