RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – There’ s nothing quite like priorities. According to journalist Berenice Seara/Extra, Mayor Marcelo Crivella issued Decree 47,108/2020, providing an additional credit of R$180.2 million, and thus reallocating the budget passed by the city councilors.

This money was pulled from Infrastructure (R$45.9 million), of which R$8.2 million from storm drain maintenance! That’s right, in a city that experiences crisis during rainstorms, Crivella thought it would be useful to decreas the budget allocated to the issue. Another R$29.2 million came from the preservation of public spaces.

For those claiming he took money from Carnaval to invest in education, he in fact took R$26.5 million. The Treasury lost R$19.7 million, R$19 million was taken from Social Assistance, and R$14.9 million was taken from maintainging shelters. It’s a good thing that Crivella is not only a bishop but also a singer, and will be in the limelight performing for the homeless.

And where will this reallocated money go? Not to education. R$123 million went to the overall “general municipal expenses” and R$12.3 million to contingency reserves. And, since there will be an election in 2020, R$32.7 million went to the advertising budget. We’ll see lots of Crivella on YouTube.
