This was but one of the activities on Easter Sunday. Earlier, at 3 PM, Father Omar, rector of the Christ the Redeemer Shrine, blessed the city of Rio from inside a helicopter.

“This Easter Sunday, when we celebrate the victory of Christ, our Redeemer, over death and all evil, we cry out the richest blessings of health so that as soon as possible we may return to the good course of our lives, for the growth of our country,” highlighted Father Omar.

At 7 PM, the act of consecration of Brazil was held by the Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Orani João Tempesta at Christ the Redeemer. He asked for Christ the Redeemer’s protection against the pandemic, in a 15-minute celebration. Soon after, the projection of images began, with messages of gratitude displayed on the monument.

Through the organization’s website donations can be made to social projects. Its organizers will allocate five tons of non-perishable foodstuffs to the institutions involved. The initiative also calls on the population to record videos with positive messages through their social media accompanied by the hashtag #FormouEsperança.

They will be placed on the campaign’s official website, which includes the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, the Christ the Redeemer Shrine, Estácio de Sá university, the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, and the Ação de Amor do Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer Action of Love), RioSolidário, Reação Institute, Gerando Falcões and União Rio projects.
