Paraguay: Exports grow 12% between January and February

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In January and February, Paraguay’s registered exports totaled US$1.2 billion, equivalent to 12.2% more than the shipments verified in the same period of 2021, according to the Foreign Trade Report (RCE).

The document prepared by the Directorate of Integration, under the Undersecretariat of State for Economy (SSEE), refers that, if “re-exports” and “other exports” are included, the inter-annual growth of total exported goods was 10.1%.

Likewise, registered imports totaled US$2.4 billion (CIF), 34.8% more than what was registered as of February 2021. If imports (FOB) are considered, and “other imports” are included, the year-on-year increase in total imported goods was 31.6%, reported Paraguay’s Ministry of Finance.

Regarding the inter-annual variation of the most important items, the report indicates that in terms of exports, the items with the highest positive impact were “Oilseeds” and “Vegetable Fats and Oils”, due to the increase in shipments of “Soya Beans” (461.2%) and “Soya Oil” (81.7%). In contrast, the items with the highest negative impact were electric energy and cereals, with decreases of 43.6% and 76.5%, respectively.

Concerning the increase in imports, “Chemicals, rubber, plastics” and “Petroleum oils” were the items with the highest incidence, since their positive variations were 59.3% and 60.1%, respectively.
