Venezuela has formally proposed to join the BRICS group, says Maduro

Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro, has revealed that the nation has formally proposed to join the BRICS group.

He expressed optimism about receiving a favorable response, referring to the BRICS as a driving force in the emergence of a multipolar world.

This announcement was made on the ‘Con Maduro+’ show, broadcasted on state television and shared on social media.

Maduro emphasized BRICS’ significant role in shaping a new world order.

BRICS, an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is a cooperative block with its own bank, currently helmed by former president Dilma Rousseff.

Established in 2001, it brought together emerging economies with potential to form a new axis of global economic governance.

The block is exploring expansion through the inclusion of new member countries.

In July, South Africa stated that 22 nations had shown interest in joining.

In May, President Lula expressed support for Venezuela’s potential inclusion in BRICS.

However, he highlighted that such a decision must be collectively made by all member countries.

The upcoming BRICS summit is scheduled to take place from August 22 to 24 in South Africa.

“We hope for a positive evaluation from China, Brazil, India, South Africa, and Russia.”

“We anticipate a favorable response, allowing Venezuela to join the BRICS’ dynamics sooner or later, to learn, support, and assist,” Maduro stated.
