Paraguayan truckers to strike if fuel prices are maintained
Paraguayan truck drivers assure that they will go on strike if the price of fuels does not go down to the price agreed in July by the sector’s unions and the government, local media report today.
In declarations to Radio 1000, the president of the Tobatí Truckers Association, Darío Toñánez, recalled that the truckers denounced the alleged breach of the agreement in a protest note sent to Petróleos Paraguayos (Petropar), the state-owned fuel import and distribution company.
According to the document, tomorrow is the deadline for the entity to pronounce itself on the matter. If the claim is not satisfied, the drivers will start a strike next Monday to pressure the price readjustment.

“Apparently, the only way for the government to listen to us is to go out and protest because they do not pay attention to the notes,” insisted Toñánez, according to the radio station 1080 AM.
The union leader explained that they are requesting a reduction of PYG 1,500 (US$0.22) in the price of a liter of diesel and gasoline, in line with the downward trend of fuel prices at the international level.
