Nicaraguan Supreme Court judge resigns after being imprisoned by Ortega

Pérez López thus becomes the fourth magistrate of the highest court to resign from her post since the massive street protests in the Central American country against Daniel Ortega in 2018.

“I am writing to you to submit my resignation from the position of a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice for health reasons, and that requires attention, making the position available,” states in her resignation letter who until now served as president of the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, after having spent eight years within the body.

Local media assures that the persecution unleashed against the judge is due to internal struggles within the Nicaraguan government to control the court.
