The government of Macau will introduce a four-year Portuguese language training program next year aimed at students interested in continuing their studies in Portugal.
The scheme, announced by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong, will initially focus on non-higher education levels, with a diversified and ongoing approach.
This initiative has been backed by cooperation agreements with higher education and cultural institutions in Portugal and other countries, aimed at enhancing Portuguese language instruction, training staff, and fostering academic and scientific research.
The Macau government has also collaborated with higher education institutions to boost student admission efforts.
In the first half of 2023, 15 cooperation agreements were signed in Portugal by the Macau administration.
It was revealed in June that over 160 students had received financial support to pursue their studies in Portugal.
