Woman asks Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Mendes if “crime pays” in Brazil

A woman asked Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Gilmar Mendes, if “crime pays in Brazil” in an approach made on Tuesday, November 15, in New York, United States.

“I don’t know,” replied Gilmar, who appeared confused and embarrassed by the comment.

The minister was in New York for the first edition of the Lide Brazil Conference, bringing Brazilian authorities together on Monday and Tuesday.

The moment was recorded on video, which circulated on social networks.

The woman communicates amicably with Gilmar in Spanish, saying she is “thrilled” with the “future president of Brazil” about the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party – PT, left).

Then he asks the question, this time in Portuguese: “Does crime pay in Brazil?

Politicians and magistrates who went to New York for the Brazil Lide Conference were harassed in the street by protesters dressed in green and yellow.

The targets include former president Michel Temer (MDB), who was called a “thief” and a “scoundrel”, and STF Justice Luís Roberto Barroso, who was approached by a woman while walking in Times Square.

However, the main victim of the attacks has been STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

On Monday, the minister was called a “bum” in a restaurant in the city.

On Tuesday, after suffering new attacks while leaving a hotel, Moraes smiled and waved to the protesters while being called “scoundrel”, “shit”, “worm”, “thug,” and “shameless”.
