It was known months ago that the Volkswagen Gol would no longer be produced in Brazil.
Now the vehicle, one of Volkswagen’s best-known models, is disappearing from the German brand’s website, officially ending its 42-year career.
Until then, the Gol appeared as one of Volkswagen’s new models and an option in the configurator.
However, from now on, the entry-level car on the site will be the Polo Track.
It is worth remembering that the Gol is the best-selling car in the South American country’s history, surpassing the 8.5 million units sold since 1980.
Even if the production of the Gol stopped at the end of 2022, dealers are still selling the last examples.
Now that stocks should be at an end, Volkswagen has removed the model from its official website. Sales figures from Fenabrave, the car dealers’ association, bear this out.
In January, just over 3,300 units were sold. This rate is declining.
When Volkswagen announced it was ending production of the Gol, it put out a special farewell series.
Limited to 1,000 units, of which 650 were sold in Brazil, the Gol Last Edition was the most expensive model in history, with a price tag of R$95,990 (US$19,324).
However, shortly after its launch, the Gol Last Edition was offered on classified ad sites for R$160,000 (US$32,209).
Even though it is no longer available as a new car, the Gol is the absolute top seller among used cars.
In 2022 there were over 700,000 units, almost the sum of the second and third places, respectively, Fiat Uno and Palio.
In 2023, the dynasty continues unchanged. In April alone, 53,590 vehicles were sold, or 8.3% of all used cars sold that month.
