Industrial production grew in Brazil by 1.1% in March in relation to February in the seasonally adjusted series after two consecutive months in decline. Compared to the same period last year, the industry advanced 0.9%.
From January to March, however, industrial production fell 0.4%. The accumulated figure for the last 12 months was stable (0%).
The result was released by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) on Wednesday (May 10, 2023).
According to IBGE, 3 of the 4 major economic categories had positive results in March: capital goods (6.3%), intermediate goods (0.9%), and consumer durables (2.5%).
The only negative rate came from semi- and non-durable consumer goods (-0.5%), which recorded its second month of decline.
In relation to economic activities, the industry had a positive variation in 16 of the 25 surveyed sectors.
The highlights were coke, oil products, biofuels (1.7%), machinery and equipment (5.1%), and computer, electronic, and optical products (6.7%).
On the other hand, apparel, and accessory manufacturing (-4.7%), furniture (-4.3%), and metal products (-1.0%) fell.
