In 2021, Brazil held 79 infrastructure auctions, says minister
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil closes the year 2021 with 39 infrastructure auctions held: 22 for airports, 13 for ports, 3 for highways, and 1 for railroads. The amount contracted in investments amounts to R$40 (US$7) billion.
“That year will go down in history for its successful partnerships,” said Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, who will be interviewed this Monday (27) on the radio program A Voz do Brasil. Since 2019, 79 auctions were held.

In the program, he will make a tour of the initiatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure this year. He will talk about the Pró-Trilhos program, which aims to expand the railway’s infrastructure in Brazil, and will explain the three axes of the program: new concessions, early renewals of existing contracts with investment innovations, and a rail licensing program.
“Undoubtedly, [the program] will drive the biggest advance in this segment in the last 100 years,” he said.
According to the minister, 49 authorization requests were received, representing an additional 12,900 kilometers of railroads and R$165 (US$31.9) billion in private investments.
As a result, the rail mode share in Brazil could increase from 20% to 40% and the Brazil Cost could be reduced by 35%.
