Brazilian aerospace leader, Embraer, has joined forces with a Japanese firm to create a new company focused on developing electric motors for eVTOLs, commonly known as flying cars.
The announcement came at the global aerospace industry event, the Paris Air Show. Embraer will hold a 49% stake in this new venture, with the remaining 51% majority share going to Nidec, the Japanese collaborator.
The company will be headquartered in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, and will leverage industrial backing from its parent entities in Brazil and Mexico.
Its main aim will be to create electric motors for a range of aircraft types.
With its five-decade track record in commercial, executive, agricultural, defense, and security aviation, Embraer is no stranger to designing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing aircraft and related systems.
The firm also provides customer service and support post-sale.
Since its establishment, Embraer has rolled out approximately 8,000 aircraft.
Every ten seconds, an Embraer aircraft takes off somewhere in the world, ferrying over 145 million passengers annually.
In March 2021, Embraer introduced its eVTOL project, a flying car equipped with an electric motor.
