RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The consumption of industrial goods in Brazil fell 0.5 percent in June, as compared to May, it was announced yesterday, August 13th, by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA).
IPEA’s Industrial Goods Apparent Indicator assesses the demand for Brazilian industrial products and imported industrial goods. Demand for industrial goods produced in the country increased by 0.2 percent in June, while the consumption of imported goods fell 1.6 percent.
With the result for June, the second quarter (April, May, and June) saw a 0.7 percent increase over the first quarter but fell 1.6 percent against the same period last year.
The survey further differentiates economic categories among industrial goods and points to a 0.5 percent increase in demand for capital goods against May. Consumer durables dropped 4.6 percent.
Out of the 22 industry sectors, an increase in demand was recorded in eight, notably in metal products and pharmaceuticals.
