Brazil, one of the world’s largest food producers, will have a record agricultural harvest of 299.7 million tons this year, 13.9 percent more than in 2022, the state-run Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported Thursday.
According to IBGE’s March projections, the Brazilian cereal, legume, and oilseed crop this year will be harvested on 76.1 million hectares, 3.9 percent more than in 2022.

Concerning 2022, a 23.2 percent increase in the soybean harvest is expected, which should total 147.2 million tons; a growth in corn production of 8.7 percent to 119.8 million tons; and a decrease in the rice harvest of 7.6 percent, reaching 9.8 million tons.

Other highlights include cotton, with an expected crop growth of 2.8 percent to 6.9 million tons, and wheat, whose production will be down 2.6 percent from last year and a total of 9.8 million tons.
Production of coffee, of which Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter, will increase by 6.5 percent compared to 2022 and reach 55.7 million 60-kilogram bags.
