Brazil’s president makes case for unified BRICS agenda ahead of South African summit

Brazil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, expressed support for a consolidated and shared agenda among BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) before departing for the 15th summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Lula da Silva conveyed on social media that the upcoming days would be dedicated to enhancing the BRICS alliance by setting shared goals and increasing cooperation for the growth of African countries.

His trip to South Africa is the first leg of his African tour, including stops in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Representing Latin America’s largest economy, Lula da Silva will attend the 15th BRICS summit from August 22nd to 24th.

This summit marks the first in-person gathering after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Brazilian Foreign Affairs Ministry also revealed that Lula da Silva is scheduled to attend the Community of Portuguese Language Countries Summit in São Tomé and Príncipe on August 27th.
