President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva chose a lawyer for the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of Paraná, contrary to Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR).
According to a report in the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, Julio Jacob Junior waved to PT politicians with the possibility of voting against the former judge in a case that could result in the removal of his mandate.
For the vacancy, Lula did not nominate the favorite from the triple list, Andrea Sabbaga de Melo, former partner of the lawyer Manoel Caetano, who is a friend and defender of the Brazilian president.
Sabbaga had already held the office of TRE of Paraná during the government of Dilma Rousseff.
According to the newspaper’s publication, before Lula’s appointment, Jacob visited Brasilia in meetings with advisors to ministers, with Gleise Hoffmann, president of the PT, with the party leader in the House, Zeca Dirceu (PR), and with the president of the Justice Committee of the House, Rui Falcão (PT-SP).
This Monday, 29, the formal celebration of Jacob’s inauguration will be held, which took place on May 3 at the TRE.
ACTIONS AGAINST MORO
The former Lava Jato judge responds to two requests to remove the senator’s mandate presented by the PL and the PT.
The representations against Moro asked the Electoral Justice of Paraná for his removal from office on the grounds of alleged irregularities in campaign spending.
The current phase of the process is the production of evidence.
Among the charges is spending above the limits established by the electoral law.
For the Senate race in Paraná, the ceiling was R$4.4 million.
Moro declared an expenditure of R$5.2 million, according to the website of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Moro denies any irregularities.
