RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – 22 Brazilian beaches have been awarded the international “Blue Flag” seal. The international jury gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark, announced the places to receive the environmental and sustainable certification.
12 of these beaches are located in Santa Catarina State, 4 in Rio de Janeiro state, 3 in Bahia, 1 in São Paulo, 1 in Espirito Santo and 1 in Alagoas state.
To qualify for the Blue Flag Award, a series of criteria focusing on environmental management, water quality, environmental education, safety and services, sustainable tourism, and social responsibility must be met, maintained, and proven annually.

The program’s primary goal is to make society, nautical businessmen, and public administrators aware of the need to protect marine and coastal environments, encouraging actions focused on quality and environmental protection.
Brazil won 28 approvals, 22 beaches, and six marinas. Check the complete list here.
