Brazil and Africa Unite Against Hunger

Brazil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is actively laying the groundwork for a Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.

His recent trip to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and the center of the African Union, underscores this mission.

The visit coincides with the Union’s 37th Summit, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration.

Social Development Minister Wellington Dias joins Lula, showcasing Brazil’s commitment during its leadership of the G20.

The inclusion of the African Union, representing 55 nations with a collective GDP of around $3 trillion, in the G20 expands the alliance’s scope significantly.

This initiative aligns with Brazil’s vision under the G20 presidency to reshape global governance.

The focus is on eliminating hunger, reducing poverty and inequality, and supporting environmental sustainability.

Through discussions in Ethiopia, Brazil seeks to solidify the alliance’s foundation, engaging with countries across Africa to rally support.

Originating from President Lula’s vision, this alliance invites nations to share and adapt successful policies to combat hunger and poverty.

Discussions on financing and governance will continue throughout the year, aiming for a formal agreement at the November G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

This strategic move not only addresses critical global issues but also positions Brazil as a pivotal force in international efforts to combat hunger and poverty.

The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision in making a tangible difference in the world.
