Apple Considers Introducing AI to iPhones by 2024

Recently, Jeff Pu, an analyst with Haitong International Securities in Hong Kong, shared some news.

He revealed that Apple is looking to add generative AI technology to iPhones and iPads. This might happen by the close of 2024.

After closely examining Apple’s supply chain, Pu shared another piece of information. He expects Apple to establish hundreds of AI servers in 2023.

Moreover, this number might grow significantly in the subsequent year.

Pu believes Apple is considering a blend of two types of AI. The first is cloud-based AI, and the second is called “edge AI”. The latter focuses on processing data right on the gadget.

Apple moves with caution when it comes to integrating new technologies. Their approach to incorporating generative AI is no exception.

The company wants to ensure they handle users’ data with care, always prioritizing privacy.

There’s a possibility that this AI feature might be introduced with new software updates. These are iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Yet, the precise use of this technology isn’t clear yet.

Recent findings indicate an interesting direction for Apple. The company may be planning to enhance Siri with broad language models.

This enhancement will make Siri smarter and more integrated with the Shortcuts app. These changes could come with iOS 18.

However, there’s another perspective to consider. Another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has given his opinion.

Apple Lags Behind Rivals

He believes Apple’s progress in generative AI lags behind its rivals. This makes the 2024 goal seem a bit ambitious.

The AI scene has seen rapid growth recently. After OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, it gained immense popularity.

Observing this, other tech giants like Google and Microsoft also jumped in. They’ve begun developing their chatbots, which are trained similarly.

In related news, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg shared an intriguing insight. He spoke of Apple’s tests with a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, which they call “Apple GPT”.

However, its launch plan for the public remains undecided.

Apple’s job listings give away a hint. The company has been showing a keen interest in generative AI through these listings.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, spoke about this in a Forbes interview. He mentioned Apple’s longstanding research in generative AI.

Cook emphasized their careful approach, understanding the challenges and biases in the technology.
