After acts in Brasilia, Soros NGO wants Lula da Silva to lead “global alliance”
The global vice-president of Open Society Foundation (OSF) programs, Salil Shetty, took advantage of acts of vandalism against public buildings in Brasília on Jan. 8, to suggest a “global alliance” led by Lula to suffocate the advances of the right in the world.
The employee of the controversial billionaire George Soros, owner of the OSF, also compared the action of vandals in Brasília to the invasion of the Capitol in the USA to justify the formation of a “pro-democracy” block.
Most newspapers used the comparison in Brazil to strengthen the theory of an ongoing rightist conspiracy.

“Just as anti-democratic forces are collaborating with each other globally, it is crucial for pro-democracy and human rights forces to come together at a global level, between public and private actors. The Lula government, and he personally, can play a key role […] The country can start this alliance right now, from the Global South, and involve other democracies in the 2024 meeting”, said Shetty.
For Shetty, Lula should take advantage of the G20 meeting, next year, to convince other leftist leaders to join the bloc.
With this, it is expected that the same tactics used in Brazil – such as the instrumentalization of Justice and criminalization of the right – will be improved by the group.
The Open Society is the main and best-known funder of progressive agendas around the world, with more than 100 entities in Brazil alone. Drug liberalization, abortion, gender ideology and racialist war are some of the agendas of NGOs and movements financed by Soros, which includes the Marielle Franco Foundation, with the declared objective of “training political leaders” and created after an increase of US$100 million from the entity.
PARTNERSHIP
After the demonstrations that led to the destruction of buildings in Brasília, on January 8, the Open Society Foundation expressed its support for President Lula in its social networks.
Claiming to be “shocked” by the violence registered in Brazil, the NGO that finances abortion and gender ideology through active movements in the Brazilian judiciary said it was “concerned” with Brazilian democracy.
While participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, met with Alexander Soros, son of George Soros.
According to the Soros heir, the two talked about the Amazon Fund, suspended in 2019, when the Bolsonaro government tried to implement new parameters for the transfer of resources.
The government wanted the Fund to include, for example, private initiative projects and small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
Germany and Norway did not accept the changes and the inspection system that should be adopted to accompany the new financing and decided to suspend transfers to the Fund.
On January 1, 2023, Lula edited a series of decrees that interfere with environmental policy and reestablished the Amazon Fund, financed by foreign NGOs involved in a series of complaints, including the illegal extraction of minerals and other materials.
