Scala Data Centers Fuels Chile’s Digital Leap with Major New Infrastructure Investment
Scala Data Centers, a key Latin American digital infrastructure firm backed by DigitalBridge, is investing over $250 million to expand its presence in Chile.
The company will build three new data centers and a power substation in the regions of Curauma, Lampa, and Huechuraba, with construction running through 2026.
The financing comes from leading Japanese and French banks, cementing international confidence in Chile’s technology sector. Chile stands out as a digital gateway for Latin America, connecting users, businesses, and data services to both Asia and the United States.
The country’s cool climate and abundant renewable energy work together to lower operating costs and make these new data centers more efficient and sustainable.
According to Chile’s Ministry of Science, the national data center market should reach $1.24 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for cloud storage, streaming, and e-commerce.
Scala’s project will add 23 megawatts of computing power at launch, with plans to reserve another 30 megawatts for further expansion. For comparison, this provides enough capacity to support millions of digital transactions or streaming sessions every day.
The company already runs facilities in Chile and Brazil, the two fastest-growing data center markets in Latin America. This surge in digital infrastructure promises real benefits.
Locally placed, efficiently run data centers mean faster, more reliable service for Chilean businesses and consumers, while also creating skilled jobs and strengthening the country’s role as a tech leader in the region.
By using 100% renewable energy, Scala also addresses growing public pressure for sustainable growth. Global tech companies increasingly see Chile as a stable place to put long-term investments, due to its steady economy and transparent regulations.
Official figures show Chile now attracts more than 13% of all regional data center investment. As more of daily life and business moves online, data centers become critical infrastructure.
With strategic projects like Scala’s, Chile positions itself at the center of Latin America’s digital future, making the arrival of this new investment a milestone for the country and a signal to global markets that its digital transformation is well underway.
