São Francisco do Sul has the best performance among Brazil’s 35 public ports
Among the 35 public ports in Brazil, the Port of São Francisco do Sul had the best percentage performance in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of 2022.
The data was announced by the National Agency of River Transportation (Antaq), which placed the port of Northern Santa Catarina at the top of the podium among the country’s port complexes.
To obtain this recognition from the federal government, São Francisco mobilized 3.75 million tonnes of goods in these first 90 days of the year, an increase of 24.5% compared to 2022.

This was followed by the ports of Santarém (Pará) and Itaqui (Maranhão), respectively, with the handling of 3.7 million tonnes (+22%) and 7.2 million tons (+16.3%).
In the first quarter, exports from the São Francisco Port reached 2 million tonnes, driven by soybeans and corn (1.8 million tonnes).
Imports, meanwhile, amounted to 1.7 million tonnes, with steel as the main product (800,000 tons), followed by fertilizers (600,000 tons).
“I do not doubt that the performance of the São Francisco Port will improve even more. That is why we created the Secretariat of Ports, Airports, and Railways.”
“We are looking at the necessary investment in each of this equipment, which contributes so much to the growth of Santa Catarina”, highlighted Governor Jorginho Mello.
Considering the cargo movement in April, the Port of São Francisco do Sul reached 5 million tonnes in the first four months of 2023, representing an increase of 20.7% compared to the same period last year (4.1 million tonnes).
This is the largest movement in the history of the port complex recorded in the first quarter of a year.
