“Pura Alquimia — Uma Homenagem ao Secos & Molhados e a Ney Matogrosso” at 8 pm and 10:30 pm. In 1973, Secos & Molhados did something that had never been done in Brazil: they combined glam rock, poetry (João Ricardo used texts by Vinícius de Moraes, Fernando Pessoa, and Cassiano Ricardo alongside his own lyrics), theatrical performance, and a front man — Ney Matogrosso — whose androgynous, sexually transgressive stage presence broke every rule of a country still under military dictatorship. The debut album sold over one million copies. “Sangue Latino” became an anthem of identity. “O Vira” made Portuguese folk dance into rock theatre. “Rosa de Hiroshima” turned Vinícius de Moraes’s atomic-age poetry into a protest song disguised as art. The group lasted only two albums before João Ricardo’s death in 1976, but their impact was permanent. Ney Matogrosso’s solo career — over fifty years of performance, pushing boundaries of gender, sexuality, and artistic freedom — extended the revolution. The Saturday daytime tradition. Feijoada Raiz on the calçadão from 11 am — the Copacabana oceanfront, the signature buffet (R$89.90), and the Amigos da Cacilda brass band carrying the energy on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, surdo, bumbo and percussion. The feijoada crowd eats, drinks and dances through the afternoon. The natural prelude to the evening’s Pura Alquimia show.

Rodrigo Barba celebrates 25 years of “Bloco do Eu Sozinho” — a project that has become a reference in Rio’s independent music scene. Special guests: Cícero (whose album “Canções de Apartamento” defined a generation of carioca indie pop), Duda Brack, Amanda Cadore, and DJ set by Sundae Tracks. The “Bloco do Eu Sozinho” name — “the one-man bloc” — captures the spirit: intimate, personal, a party that starts with one and becomes many. Check venue and ticket information online.
