Peru’s Public Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation against Prime Minister for collusion

Peru’s Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, and the Minister of Labor, Alfonso Adrianzén, are accused of aggravated illicit association, the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office informed and announced the beginning of an investigation against them.

Otárola is implicated in 2 other investigations for dozens of deaths in anti-government protests.

Peruvian law states that aggravated conspiracy is a crime of defrauding the State of its assets and is punishable with 3 to 6 years in prison.

Minister Alfonso Adrianzén appointed days before Carola Rodriguez as an advisor to his office with a monthly salary of US$4,078.

According to the Peruvian weekly Hildebrandt en sus Trece, Carola Rodríguez Bringas is the aunt of Luis Eduardo Otárola, son of Alberto Otárola, who did not include the name of his firstborn in his sworn declaration of interests.

Later, upon learning of the investigation, the Peruvian Prime Minister himself declared: “I have not intervened in this appointment”.

For his part, the Minister of Labor indicated that he did not receive any “indication or recommendation” for the known appointment.

Likewise, he affirmed that there are no “criminals” in the current administration.

Alberto Otárola is implicated in two other preliminary investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office against the high executive, including President Dina Boluarte, for the death of dozens of citizens during the anti-government protests that began last December.

According to the Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office, at least 58 civilians have died due to the social protests due to confrontations with the forces of law and order or related events.
