Flights from Brazil: Argentina expects strong arrival of tourists during winter
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As the world continues to relax travel restrictions, airlines begin to restore routes they had abandoned or establish new ones.
Brazil’s GOL Linhas Aéreas announced that as of August 20, it would resume flights between Fortaleza and Buenos Aires after operations on this leg by the company were suspended in March 2020 because of the pandemic.
There will be one flight per week on Saturdays from the Buenos Aires metropolitan Aeroparque, operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 186 available seats. While the inaugural flight will depart at 8 PM from Buenos Aires and arrive at 1:15 AM in Fortaleza, the rest of the operations will take off at 8:30 PM and arrive at 1:45 AM.

Argentina adds a new air connection that will allow more Brazilian tourists to come to Argentina for vacations.
According to the International Tourism Statistics shared by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec), 24.6% of international tourists came from Brazil during March 2022, being surpassed only by the rest of Latin American countries, which accounted for 25%.
Furthermore, 15.9% of Argentine travelers were heading to the neighboring country in terms of outbound tourism.
“Leading the ranking of the most interested tourists in Argentina are Brazilians, who not only top the list but have increased demand by 86% compared to January and February,” detailed a Despegar statement from early April.
Airline companies manage these trends and adapt their products accordingly. GOL announced a few days ago that it would add routes connecting São Paulo with Córdoba and Rosario in November. Flights will start on November 22 and 28, respectively.
In addition, the company also has daily services between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, four weekly services from São Paulo, and one more per week from Florianópolis.
Aerolíneas Argentinas historically maintains air routes with the main Brazilian metropolises; this year, in addition to the “classic” connections, it announced a series of new flights specially designed for the Brazilian public.
“The Brazilian market is the most important for Aerolíneas Argentinas. From July, with the flights to Bariloche, Salta, and the increase of frequencies to São Paulo, we will be recovering more than 70% of the frequencies of the Pre-Pandemia”, assured Fabián Lombardo, commercial director of the flag carrier, in the act of presentation of new routes in Curitiba.
In April, the company inaugurated the Buenos Aires-Brasília and Buenos Aires-Curitiba routes, in addition to some flights that do not go through the city of Buenos Aires but take travelers to the most popular natural tourist destinations.
As of July, the Salta-São Paulo-Salta route will start operating with three flights per week. Likewise, operations will start between São Paulo-Córdoba-El Calafate with two weekly frequencies. And also the routes that will connect São Paulo with Bariloche.
“It is great news to be able to confirm routes that have the main objective to continue feeding the network of flights from Brazil; it is part of the flight scheme that we have been announcing to boost regional traffic,” said Pablo Ceriani, head of Aerolíneas Argentinas regarding the new flights.
In addition, the company maintains the routes connecting Aeroparque in Buenos Aires with São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador de Bahia regularly.
