A delegation from the Colombian Navy (ARC) and the Cotecmar shipyard have visited the facilities that Damen and Thales have in the Netherlands to hold meetings and make presentations on the design of the future Strategic Surface Platforms (SSP), whose contract was signed last September between the Colombian shipyard and the Dutch company.
The Colombian delegation was headed by Rear Admirals Luis Márquez and Camilo Segovia, Navy Captains Gerardo Sanabria, Daniel Alvaréz, and three other senior ARC officers.
The meetings discussed, among others, aspects such as the future electronic equipment that will integrate the PES and the possibility of reconfiguring the current systems of the FS1500 light frigates in the upcoming platforms.

They also attended the presentations by the companies Thales and Saab, the latter being very interested in actively participating in the PES process to provide electronic systems.
FIVE UNITS
Colombia expects to jointly design and build, according to the operational needs of the ARC and based on Damen’s Sigma 10514 model, a total of five multi-mission vessels that can operate anywhere in the world, but mainly on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts independently.
This agreement is given in developing the Strategic Plans of the Defense Sector (2018-2022) and Military Transformation (2042), with which it seeks to sustain a dissuasive and appropriate regional balance.
